CLAIR DE LUNE

Clair de Lune, a French bakery named in honor of the owner's mother, encapsulates the essence of elegance and sophistication. The bistro recently underwent a period of closure for renovation, presenting an opportunity to create a design that seamlessly blends classic elements with a stylish twist. In pursuit of a timeless aesthetic, I opted to pay homage to traditional woodcut artistry, featuring a slumbering crescent moon enclosed within a delicate circular frame. Flanking the moon, the graceful words "Clair de Lune" are artfully rendered in a distinguished serif typeface, adorned with intricately curved embellishments. The resulting design exudes an enduring allure, capturing the essence of a bygone era.

THE PROCESS:

I opted to maintain a conventional representation of the moon. My primary focus revolved around examining various visages, characterizations, and disguises for both full and crescent moons. As I delved deeper into the artistic exploration, I found myself captivated by the diverse illustrations, which ultimately inspired the inclusion of a fleeting smile in the motion graphic.
